About Electric Roller Shutters

Tuesday, August 15th, 2017UncategorizedAdmin

If you are looking for an attractive yet effective form of home security, you really cannot go past roller shutters.  Roller shutters come in electric and manual forms but how do you know which is best?  We’ve outlined the pros and cons for you to help you make the right choice. Read on for more.

About Electric Roller Shutters

Electric roller shutters are fitted with a tubular motor that opens and closes the shutters at the push of a button on the remote, wall receiver or toggle switch.  The motor can be wired to your main electricity supply or they can be hooked up to solar power, for the ultimate in energy efficiency.   The main advantage of electric roller shutters is how convenient they are.  You can open or close them exactly as you want just at the push of a button, no matter where they are located.  Electric roller shutters are also surprisingly low in maintenance if they use quality components.

Something that you do have to keep in mind however is that electric roller shutters are little more expensive to install than manual roller shutters, due to the extra components that you need and the additional time required for the installation by electrician.

About Manual Roller Shutters

Manual roller shutters are those that you open and close yourself, using a mechanism such as a metal case winder.  They are very popular due to the fact that they are the most cost effective type of roller shutter to install.  Manual roller shutters are fitted to both doors and windows and the winder located on the inside of the door or window, so that you can access it easily.

The only thing that you need to consider with manual roller shutters is that you will need to go around to all of your doors and windows each day and physically wind the shutter to the level of openness that you want.  If you want to adjust them through the day, you will have to go around to each door and window individually, and this can be quite time consuming.  Manual roller shutters, while reliable, also require more maintenance than electric roller shutters to keep them operating at their best.
